Daylight's BirthDay "17 Freestyle"
Speaking with Daylight, you learn about his style really fast and has similar styles to many SoundCloud rappers nowadays. In this “17 Freestyle”, the hook is about how Daylight sits back, does his own thing and keeps moving forward no matter what anyone says about him. He doesn’t let anyone’s insight hold him back from his craft. The reason behind the freestyle is pure joy due to it being his birthday and finally turning 17.
Verse 1 establishes that it’s a freestyle, and he reiterates the meaning of the hook. “If you talking down but listening then you a hypocrite, seems like everybody tryna be me, ain’t nobody rapped for I was drippin like some Fiji”. Daylight explained to us that he said this lyric because he claims he started his own rap wave in Southwest Michigan and now everyone wants to rap. He raps “I got Baldy cooking bangers in the basement, and Chrissy in the corner loading 9’s up in the stainless”. He later mentioned to us that those were the two people he was with while recording this.
Verse 2 states, “and these hoes wasn’t fucking back when I was on my cloud shit” meaning that no one really wanted anything to with him when he was just a typical SoundCloud rapper and now that they see him coming up, they want to be friends with him. “Ha sike nah I had to come up from the ground bitch, if you wasn’t with me from the jump then you a clown bitch”. He claims that he doesn’t want anything to do with people that weren’t with him from day one.
