Last year, J. Cole shocked fans by bringing Young Thug to open on his KOD tour.
Sources close to Thug have confirmed with various news outlets such as Complex that J. Cole will be executive producing Young Thug’s new album in the coming months. The two have reportedly been in conversation about working on music together since Cole’s tour in 2018. This didn’t come as a shock to most as Cole has been co-signing Young Thug since Thug was a new artist and has expressed his admiration for Thug’s work in interviews in the past. To those who doubt Young Thug’s creative ability, Cole asserts that he has immense faith in Young Thug’s ability as an artist and a creator.
In his interview with Angie Martinez, Cole says, "If you wanna talk about Thug as like, an artist, he's an innovator. You can call him a mumble rapper all you want, but if you know skills and the art of rapping, and you know like, how you put words together, you know pockets, you know flows, you know the things he does with his voice, dude is a genius”. Young Thug has indicated that he does not intend to slack on his music anytime soon and plans to win the ‘20 Grammys. “I dream of being acknowledged as the best rapper alive and the richest rapper alive,” he tells Interview Magazine. Whether or not his predictions will come true is yet to be seen, but fans of both Young Thug and J. Cole are understandably pumped to listen to what will no doubt be a sick album created by two of the most talented artists in the game.
