Hailing from Laurens, SC Dave Shemar is a 20 year old that's had a passion for music since the age of 12. "It's funny, I would walk around the house singing and my mom and grandma (before she passed) would always tell me to hush. I would sing from the moment I woke up till it was time to lay down. I think I was 14 when I spent my allowance on the Carter 3 and ever since then I fell in love with writing. My mom bought me a composition notebook and I had it from 8th grade up until 11th. I became passionate in high school but I couldn't afford a studio or studio time. I had an HTC I used to record off of. It was trash but I didn't care what was said, I was just doing what I loved. I felt I didn't have the means necessary to do music so I eventually gave up. I appreciate my bros for telling me that I could do it and that made me believe I can. Just two weeks ago, I got out of class and I started adding the finishing touches to a song I've been working on for about a month. I don't know what it was but I would always put the song off and move onto another one but one day I just sent the song to Daze and asked if he wanted to get on it. He said yes and we dropped it. Ever since then, so much exposure has come my way. Without Daze, my bros and my girlfriend I don't think I would've taken it as seriously as I do now."
"My music is different from the competition because I'm actually speaking a message people can relate to. I'm an old school soul so I separate myself and my music from what it is now. I take my time and I'm attentive to criticism so I don't rush myself either. I feel that I have my own flow and that separates me from others."
In terms of what he's trying to accomplish with his music Shemar says "Exposure! Recognition! I just want to be able to do what I love."
Shemar describes his music as trap and hip-hop influenced R&B. It's a blend of honest lyrics and brooding on slowed-down beats. He says his inspirations include Drake, Bryson Tiller, T-Pain and The Dream. "I feel as if everyone should say Drake, especially if you experimenting with hip hop and R&B because he's been around forever. Bryson Tiller gave everyone that sense of stepping out and adding R&B on top of a trap based beat and The Dream is just that guy. Shawty a 10, Falsetto, Rockin'... He's legendary."
"The first time I realized music is what I wanted to do is after I received all the positive feedback and my belief system. Just hearing how much potential people set on me was enough to convince me that maybe I could do this. I'm releasing a song or two before the year ends and releasing my EP "Sole:Soul." Sole refers to one of something and no more than one meaning the one and only, without others, not shared and solitary. Soul is decency and honesty of feeling, emotional, moral and intellectual energy and that's the picture my ep will paint for the listeners."
